Michelin Starred – Fine Vegan Dining in Athens

Apologies for my absence but my life changed completely in the last year and a half (long story) and I haven’t had a lot of time to update the blog. I got caught up in a lot of personal issues and I just realized that it’s been forever since my last post.

Over the past couple of months I visited some of the top and Michelin awarded restaurants in Greece. Luckily enough all the chefs were happy to serve me a special vegan dinner – which most of the times made the non vegan people around me seriously jealous of my meals.

First stop at Spondi.Β  Here I enjoyed a fabulous vegetable terrine, an amazing tomato salad – that had all the tomatoes you can think off – including a tomato sorbet (love) and a dish with all you can think of veggies (fresh vegetables, grilled vegetables, fried vegetables, crispy vegetable chips)- including an amazing rice cream dip on the its side. I also had a vegetable risotto but the previous dish was my favorite one here!

Second stop at Hytra. Here I enjoyed a lovely fresh green salad, with hazelnuts and the most delicious hazelnut dressing I ever had. For main I had a mushrooms dish and for dessert a delicious chocolate caramel dessert with hazelnut ice cream on the side.

Third stop was at Varoulko.Β  I had a vegetable, beans and angel hair pasta soup. A salad with caramelized lentils, rocket and fava beans mousse. The most delicious risotto I ever had in my life. Seriously, you could feel each vegetable at every bite! There was also an amazing coconut chocolate dessert.

Another Michelin star awarded restaurant I have visited in the past is Funky Gourmet and you can read about my experience here.

Vegan Mofo Day 1: Dining at Funky Gourmet

Few days ago I organized a business dinner at Funky Gourmet, a restaurant that is specialized in Molecular gastronomy. I wasn’t supposed to attend this dinner but my boss insisted, so I notified the restaurant manager like only 2 hours in advance that I was gonna join and that I was vegan. In my surprise the chef did everything to please me and serve me a total vegan dinner. The dishes were all amazing, really well presented and the staff was very helpful, explaining all ingredients and concept of each dish.

We started the dinner with these 3 fabulous “drinks”

Then we continued with the mastic crackers

Then we had this amazing salad with quinoa, flowers and vegetables. Probably the best salad I had in a long time!

Then I had the parsnip. This was so beautiful placed in a shell, garnished with ginger foam to represent the waves and frozen dried breadcrumbs to represent the sand, served with zucchini dressing. The shell was placed on a plastic bag full of water, sea rocks and shells to represent the ocean. I ❀ this dish.

Then I had the stuffed zucchini, which was basically sushi rice with herbs, rolled in zucchini shreds.

Then I had a greek salad (which had nothing to do with the traditional greek salad but unfortunately didn’t get a picture of this dish) and grilled vegetables.

Then I had the falafel. Very moist and tasty, served with tomato marmalade on the side.

Unfortunately, this dinner was gonna last forever, and after 3 hours being there tasting their amazing food, I had to run to my restaurant and didn’t get the chance to try their desserts. Maybe another time πŸ™‚
